    The notion that groundwater is saving the situation is very sad as it once again overlooks the massive amounts of groundwater theft that has occurred over recent decades. Current GRACE satellite measurements put the rate of groundwater depletion in the Central Valley at 10 cubic kilometers a year. We even have speculators trying to sell groundwater from under other guys'  farmsto farmers west.

    We all lose ultimately in California's water war, but every war has its war profiteers. Without leadership from the federal government, Bakersfield is on track to become America's new Detroit (with less water and much lousier air quality).
