  •  He dismissed all the central players (7+ / 0-)

the instant he "heard about" the traffic jam and he never asked one of them anything before the gang-termination.  This from a man known as a micromanager.  Puleease!

From "Richard Nixon: a Fantasy" by David Frye (circa 1975):

    Nixon (regarding Watergate) -
"Unfortunately, I've been forced to accept the resignations of 1541 of the finest public employees I've ever known.  And, of course, I accept full responsibility...er, but not the blame.  Let me explain the difference: People who are to blame lose their jobs; people who are responsible do not."

"Instead, I've chosen the more difficult course: the only way I'm leaving the White House is to be dragged kicking and screaming because I love America.  And you always hurt the one that you truly love."

    Later -
"I figure it's 100 to 1 that I'll be impeached and 1,000 that I'll be convicted and that has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that, today, I'm proposing a Prison Reform Bill that provides a two-bedroom suite -- with a terrace -- for any wrongdoer who was at one time the highest official in the land."

Nobody doesn't wish he had more education.

I so loved that record.  David Frye was much better than Rich Little, too.
Capote. "Everyone here has a nickname so let's see.  What shall we call you?  Oh, I know.  The Professor."
Nixon. "Hey, I like that.  I am the Professor."

Spiro Agnew upon being told he's just become the President. "OH, BOY.  This will show those little jerks in school who used to call me names and chant Spiro, Spiro, what a zero.  With a name like that he must be a queer-o."

"If it takes all night / that'll be alright / if I can get you to smile before I leave." Jackson Browne
