for the hatred of Corbett by the Penn State crowd, and yes they're everywhere in the state because there are so many branch campuses.
I live in Lancaster County and work in York County(Wolf's home), and I know many Penn State alums or fans, although I'm a Pitt grad myself so I don't have any special connection to Penn State.
But to be clear, the aspects of the Sandusky scandal that angers the Penn State people most are 1) the NCAA sanctions, loss of athletic scholarships, and loss of past football wins during the Paterno/Sandusky era and 2) the perceived mistreatment of Joe Paterno.  That's it, the refusal and/or inability to recognize the seriousness of Sandusky's crimes by the university, the athletic department, and Paterno is an afterthought.
I've driven through Centre County and around State College more times than I can count on may way to/from visiting relatives, and it's basically the university in the middle of nowhere, with the stadium monolith towering above it all.  The status of the football program is probably more intertwined with the image of the university than almost any other big time football school except for maybe Notre Dame or Alabama.
At the time that Paterno was fired and the sanctions were imposed, I told a group of coworkers that I thought the punishments were appropriate and that Paterno deserved to be removed--they looked at me like I just took a shit on their church alter.
Again, the thing that is going to kill Corbett isn't any of his terrible policies, whoring for the frackers or anything else, it's the perceived harm to the sacred Penn State football program and nothing else.  That's what it will take for a PA governor to lose re-election for the first time since they allowed two terms.  So at least Corbett will have that distinction.

his voter id bill, sluggish economic growth, and ethical issues are all coming together to sink Corbett. His refusal of the medicaid expansion and voter id push are huge motivators for Democrats to turn out against him as well.
