  •  A gun is not a 360 degree, 24/7 personal (4+ / 0-)

    protection lump of benign metal.

There is a term, riding shot gun. If a person is so nervous he should take some one with him whose job it is to ride shot gun.

Multi tasking is not what a gun defense person should try. Few are skilled enough.

Seems to me that nobody should carry a gun who does not know how to use it. Ditto for somebody who has not convinced themselves that they are prepared to use it -- although, one argument for open carry (as opposed to concealed carry) is that the presence of a weapon would make bad actors move on to easier prey. Same idea as having a dog at home.

So - what do you think of guys in Detroit who

openly carry guns to the gas station in response to the incredible rash of carjackings that has afflicted the city?

Plenty of people have guns with wildly ranging skill levels.

Expectations of what can be accomplished with a gun frequently exceed what a gun is.

So to brandish a gun to make bad actors move on to easier prey --- you need a real gun? Really.

gun unless you are prepared to use it.
Prepared implies trained and understanding the ramifications of its use.

I don't own a gun, so I don't carry one.  If ever I decide to buy one, I will certainly get trained in its use -- not just how to shoot it, but what to do in dangerous situations.
