    Most of California's turbines are old, small, inefficient 70s models, i.e. less than 200kW each with high-maintenance costs. Wind is the one alternative energy industry that really has evolved in the last 30 years into a large-scale viable industry.

    It's true that wind will probably never be able to completely replace fossil fuels, but then our current energy structure isn't based on any single energy source either. Wind is merely one very promising, commercially viable new piece to the puzzle.
