  •  I tore my medial meniscus in 1974 (13+ / 0-)

while learning how to ski. Went in to Dr when my knee collapsed as I was walking down stairs. Had the meniscus removed.

In 1979, I was running on a daily basis, with my longest runs around 10K. Ran 2-4 miles each day, especially around the football field track, but also on the roads on the Bottoms (beautiful Arcata).

In 1979, my Dr said I had an 80 year old knee and showed me where by pushing on a particularly arthritic point. Really horrible pain. Continued to run until around 1984.

Cut to 2007 (not yet 60 yrs) and my right knee produced so much pain, I finally had to get it replaced. My Dr wanted to replace both because both were absolutely horrible, but ended up only doing one. Such a tremendous relief once the torture of PT was finished.

Cut to 2014 - I have had to use my cane occasionally because now the left knee is starting to hurt. Still have meniscus, but also an awful lot of arthritis. I've got too much traveling to do (pleasure) before I get it replaced, so I'm counting on cortisone shots to keep me going for at least 3 years.

I have been where you have been, and even had the underside of my patella scraped because it was putting small pieces of bone into what was left of my right knee joint. I was on crutches for several weeks after that.

Always had spinals, because the one time I had general I woke up sure I was going to die (meniscusectomy day). Since then, spinals. I wanted to watch the replacement, but the sedative they gave me knocked me out. Oh well, I saw some of the patella scraping!

    Good luck!
