  •  Too Late For Mason Bees (0+ / 0-)

As I said above, it's getting to be right at the end of the reproductive cycle for mason bees. The males died off about three weeks ago (NW Oregon), and the females are close to finishing their work and also dying off.

Mason bees need to be bought and released in the early to mid-Spring, read about that here: Territorial Seed Co. - Bees and Bee Supplies

You have probably heard of the recent plight of the honey bee. Now there is hope for home fruit crops in the blue orchard bee, or as it is more commonly called, orchard mason bee. The orchard mason bee has become a helpful ally in the search for an effective fruit tree pollinator.

I started last year with twenty cocoons. I harvested 81 at the end of last year. I'm seeing many bees working my Mason Bee House and have nine completely filled chambers already with some of the girls going in and coming out of many more chambers.

The males just died off a little less than a week ago.
