truly a vile condition, especially since it wasn't one until very recently (or, are you sure it isn't just in your head?)

    •  Ugh tell me about it (10+ / 0-)

Though I am pretty lucky. I was diagnosed back in 99, when I was only 22. My mom spent a decade of my childhood sending me to specialists trying to figure out why I kept saying I was hurting before she gave up. All they ever told her was that it was either growing pains or I was lying to get attention.

Still, I know many with fibromyalgia who had to wait several decades to be correctly diagnosed. The doctor who finally helped me had only been actively sending me to specialists for about a year before someone said something besides just suggesting I see a psychiatrist.

And it was several more years after that before I could tell any doctor I saw that I had fibromyalgia and they would immediately know what I meant.

Now I just have to deal with the doctors who say they can cure me. Blech.

And I haven't even tried to get SSD (not that I really need it as my husband makes enough to support us). How on Earth could I get SSD with a condition that makes me seem fine to most people?

Inflammation and pre-arthritis in the chest and ribs. Another "invisible" condition that is not well known or understood.  For me it is not disabling, but it can be incredibly painful some days, and someone who is watching me clutch my chest could confuse it with a heart attack.
