    The accepted conventional wisdom, even among many on the left, is that aggressive action on climate change will inevitably be regressive in that it would take away jobs from coal-miners and increase electricity cost indiscriminately, thus mostly hurting those who can least afford those increases (the poor).

    But any carbon pricing system would gain substantial amount of revenue, and there is no reason why we can't rebate those revenues in a progressive manner and thus nullify whatever rate increases occur. Furthermore, coal is a dying industry no matter what the administration does, so any transition to a cleaner energy economy would have MORE jobs for working class americans, not less.

    This doesn't have to be painful, but the GOP and the Fossil Fuel industry have intentionally presented this Hobbesian choice so as to disincentivize any action. And you know what, its worked.
