    He's certainly not an upstater.

        but the absolutely correct answer.

Dogs from the street can have all the desirable qualities that one could want from pet dogs. Most adopted stray dogs are usually humble and exceptionally faithful to their owners as if they are grateful for this kindness. -- H.M. Bhumibol Adulyadej

Considering how violently he's badmouthed the Republican Party -- particularly the national GOP -- that isn't even within the realm of plausible.

        •  The Republicans sure don't think he's a Republican (2+ / 0-)

Due to his pushing through the NY Safe Act (gun control), he's positively hated by all the gun rights people (pretty much all Republicans) upstate. You have no idea how much hate they have for him. There's "Cuomo's gotta go" yards signs, bumper stickers, etc. all over upstate, along with "Repeal the Safe Act" signs in various variations backed by various groups. Lots of Republicans upstate are making this their #1 issue. I haven't seen this much energy on any other single issue in a long time.

Astorino is running on the Republican ticket, his main platform (at least upstate) seems to be the repeal of the NY Safe Act.

What I positively do NOT want to see is a WFP/Democratic split that allows Astorino to win. Be careful, guys. Cuomo's not nearly as bad as what we could have if Astorino takes this.  And I commend him for passing the NY Safe Act, despite whatever reservations you have that he's not progressive enough on other issues.
