the 'ell our of Afghanistan looking for bin Laden, and were deadly wrong invading Iraq under false pretense; it was all about the oil, folks. Osama bin Laden had a small following, he was considered a fundamental extremist back in the day. The Arab world was with us after 9-11.  If we had patience, a large ransom would have brought him in.  Instead we devastated a country, a people, who had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11.  The invasion of these two countries created a breeding ground for terroists.

The Bush/Cheney mantra of forcing democracy upon foreign lands never worked.  "Nation building," can only be done by the countries themselves.  President Obama's approach is not only the right way, it is the moral way, and the only way nations will change.  Support behind the scenes, and the biggest part of the equation, patience.

Patience is something the Republican Party does not have.  It takes decades for countries to turn around if the people have the will to help make it happen.

Might is not always right.  It takes a lot more courage and strength through diplomatic channels then to have a "shock and awe," foisted upon who we think needs to change their policies.
