    ...it was never abolished. Read the 13th amendment carefully. It is something that is happening in the here and now.

    Disenfranchisement of black people continues unabated in this country; the former slave codes that restricted movement of black people, slave or free, became the black codes that are the foundation of Jim Crow and segregation. Despite the Fair Housing Act redlining continues. Despite the Voting Rights Act voter suppression via intimidation and legislative action. Despite Brown v. Board becoming the law of the land over 50 years ago, it is still being implemented with all deliberate speed and public schools continue to be separate and unequal.

    This country remains one which, at it's core, continues to take as a default position that there are no rights of black people that they are obligated to respect. Your post is further evidence of that fact.

    Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.
