just out for dinner looking scary and someone calls the cops, says there is a man in the restaurant with a gun and he looks scary.

To an above comment, for sure black and brown men will 'look' scarier, and they'll be shot by white guys with delusions of law enforcement employment, but so will white guys who are a little awkward, or who look poor, or who yell at their girlfriends in public, or who get into arguments with cops about where they are parked.  Or who get drunk and forget they need to act not scary. There are lots of ways to call attention to yourself, all the talk about the mentally ill with guns, this is everyone with guns gets to show them off.  Pretty much any guy who gets off on having his gun showing?  They want attention by definition.

    What could go wrong.

If I lived in one of those 'packing in public' states, I'd never go out.

    •  but how do you tell (8+ / 0-)

the crazed guy there to shoot up the McDonalds (it does happen) or the mall from someone exercising their constitutional rights?  Should people be forced to look for cover every time they are out in public?   Should they become so immune to the presence of heavyily armed people that they are sitting ducks?

If these whack jobs actually cared about freedom, protecting people and all the other shit they spout, they wouldn't be for open carry in everday situations.

it didn't run completely against the threat of "infringing" on their 2nd Amendment rights, I would suggest some kind of emblem, badge, or uniform issued after it has been proven to the degree possible that these really are good guys.

In the old West, you could tell who was the good guy and who was the bad guy. The good guy wears a white hat and the bad guy wears a black hat. Wait, that was "Gunsmoke" and other TV westerns. Paladin was the exception. He wore a black hat. It could have been green, but it was black and white TV. But I digress.

These idiots walking around with guns slung across their backs just do not seem to get that they are complete strangers to all the rest of us and there is no way to tell just by looking at them whether they are out for a fight or out for a Right.  Some kind of visual clue would be helpful.
