  •  When I went to Viet Nam as a Counterintelligence (6+ / 0-)

Agent for the Army I had no clear understanding of that war. It took about 1 week of Insum Briefings to figure out we were in deep sh*t and no one had committed to getting us out. That was in 1967-1968 - 2 years into that quagmire.

When I returned to the States, I had an informed opinion about that war. I told the city fathers of my home town that - as much as I didn't like him - Bobby Kennedy had it right. He said that there was not one square inch of Viet Nam worth a drop of American blood.

If you read background information on Bergdahl, you will see that he went to the Sandbox expecting to help the people of Afghanistan - and 6 years ago that was a plan Bush had long since abandoned if he ever had it. The military's first mistake was to allow Bergdahl to graduate from basic artillery training. Whatever Bergdahl's mental state was at the time he was captured - note: that is the correct word to use - his opinions have evolved over the last 5 years.

The time has come to repair this country and care for its' veterans.
