  •  Write about it, brother. My road to recovery (8+ / 0-)

was a Creative Writing 101 class.

I was recently discharged and still a bit gimpy when I tried to use the GI Bill education program. The VA in Montana had a reputation of loosing complete files (paper files in manila folders) 'falling through the cracks' as one news team reported. Since then it's been a struggle. I worked nights swabbing out toilets and mopping classrooms.

Putting my experiences on paper made me recall every person in my squad and their backgrounds. It made me examine why I was there and what I expected in life.

You don't need to do anything formal, like for publication. Do it for yourself. Confront it, organize it and put it in writing. It may be hurtful, but your heart will be lighter.

    It help save me.

Let me know if you need help.

have you signed up with the DAV as your representative?  Don't even bother with the American Legion, what a rat fuck of an outfit, steer clear of those right wing boys.

Get some help with the DAV for starters and see about that gimpy issue you have.  They can also help you with using the GI Bill.  My youngest son was in Iraq and was injured in an IED that sent a piece of shrapnel to his head.  Didn't draw much blood but it gave him the TBI issues so I am up on what is happening regarding you newer veterans.  Me, I got shot in Vietnam and discharged in 1971, no GI Bill to speak of in those days.

Anyway, seek out a veterans service officer at the county or city in which you live for starters.  Then ask them there to make the DAV your advocate and get on with your life.  Let me know if there is anything further I can do.
