    or meant.

But when you have a guy who can sometimes be amazingly astute at recognizing and calling bullshit, but at other times treats it as a reasonable point even worthy of discussion, StellaRay's frustration is completely understandable.  At least to me.

Because when he does that, he legitimizes the bullshit.

I think he talks off the top of his head way too much.  I agree with StellaRay that he doesn't do the hard work of preparation that Maddow does, and it shows.  He's made some really inappropriate comments on occasion that he apologized for the following day because he recognized in hindsight (or someone pointed out to him) how it came across.  That's why I think he's guilty of letting his mouth run before his brain is engaged.

The other reason I have difficulty watching him is his constant interrupting.  Not to disagree, but to say something in the middle of his guest's reply.  He does this constantly.  I don't think he's deliberately rude, this is just another aspect of the blithe cluelessness he too often displays.

    •  Chris is basically a good progressive (10+ / 0-)

...but yeah, that's a good summation...sometimes he legitimizes the bullshit from the other side. I can't stand it when he actually gives Reagan credit for things he had no part in...like ending the Cold War which was a result of the Soviets coming to the table because of four Democratic presidents backing opposition in Korea, Vietnam and Afghanistan, causing the Soviets into a 22% military budget for 25 years straight...bankrupting them.

When Chris repeats things to sarcastically mock the right-wing, he often assumes the listener knows what he's talking about and it simply sounds like he's repeating Fox talking points. When Chris writes a closing speech, there is no better. But, lately, I think his marketing team has gotten to him and are telling him to be a little more edgy with guests to raise ratings etc...

Last week he rudely disagreed with Joan Walsh and Mike Steel, two very frequent "friendly", "on staff" contributors, in such a rude way that it made no sense, as if he was trying to pick a fight...That smacks of pure publicity marketing.

there might be a marketing angle, he never comes across as scripted to me.  But I've seen a number of times I felt like Joan Walsh would have walloped him if given half a chance.  I've often wondered if there are people who refuse to be on his show, because of the rude interrupting.  Really, half the time, it seems like he's looking at his notes and not even really paying much attention to what they're saying when he interrupts, though what he says seems to suggest he's hearing them.  SMH

that he is losing ground with Democrats

and he is preparing to jump to Fakes News or CNN or some other station

he could use last night's show as proof that he's not like those other Democrats
