Is it now possible to cow anybody from doing anything with some telephone threats?

At what point do you stand up to these bullies and tell them that we intend to live our lives?

I would not hesitate to attend this event in the spirit of its organizers' intent. Not for a second.

Almost everything you do will seem insignificant, but it is most important that you do it.

    •  That also worries me. (7+ / 0-)

These bas+ards are escalating the antagonism and eventually, it will break out really ugly.
But I can't ask a small town in Idaho to risk being the site.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

I would just make a different one, I guess.

to do the kind of wall of humanity thing that is facing the WBC goons at funerals, then maybe it would be the place to draw the line, but, 1) I don't think enough of us could arrange to get there in time or have the balls to face armed, deranged angry 4ssholes and 2) Bergdahl isn't going to be going home soon, he will reunite with his family in Germany (most likely) and spend some time in process. He might even face courts martial before he gets home.
Somewhere, somehow, though, these jerks must be confronted and slapped down.

Part of the process in Germany is reintegration (back into the world)

I have no idea how long this process would take for someone held prisoner for 5 years under unknown conditions, but I would imagine it will not be a short term process.

I believe I read somewhere that Sgt. Bergdahl would not have been able to handle the crowds & this was also part of the consideration to cancel.

I would also imagine the reintegration process will dictate how & when he will be able to handle media interviews or press suddenly appearing & camping out & whatever is decided by the military that is to be faced...  Hell, perhaps even normal activities of daily living beit noise or a hug or freedom of movement........

I wish this family time, peace & full recovery to normalcy.

            Peace and healing.

The rally was planned some time ago - there have been several rallies throughout the years for Bowe. A tree is planted for each year of his captivity, there is music, many motorcyclists visiting in support, children, speeches, balloons, etc. When news came of Bowe's release, the event was changed to a celebration, but it was never expected that he would be there in person - way too soon.

        •  The thing is, Termite, (0+ / 0-)

previous Bring Back Bowe rallies have been family events, and the celebration of his release would have been attended by even more local families.  The city does not have the infrastructure to police an event which could turn violent; the community has no interest in fighting the wingnuts and does not want them here. We just want to celebrate the return of one of our own, and it will be done one way or another.
