Desertion, AWOL or anything that falls into those categories, he should be tried and given the appropriate punishment whatever that entails or may be....

Just because he was held captive or tortured doesn't excuse him form that.

He wasn't drafted, it's a ll volunteer force, and a contract was signed o follow the rules...going AWOL or desertion is against the rules...

in fact, you're pulling stuff out of your ass. Wait for the Army to do their thing, before you go all arm-chair Rambo.

        •  The only people who know for sure... (0+ / 0-)

are the ones who were there...and they have said he was a deserter or went AWOL. Just who do you think the Army will be obtaining their info from...the Afghanistan tooth fairy, or the ones who had boots on the ground during that time.

likely have a skewed point of view of the facts based on their personal opinions of Bergdahl.  Further, they're making unsubstantiated assumptions about Bergdahl's intent.  They don't know; but the known facts would seem to contradict their assumptions, so I wouldn't base my conclusions on that

            •  If you are living with someone in that type (0+ / 0-)

of environment, of course you are going to have an opinion, why, because no matter how stand offish he was if you are in his unit you have had numerous conversations with him, and have a up close and personal first hand knowledge of his beliefs and his stance on his situation. I would argue in that type of situation it's impossible not to. They were not in a college environment, they were in combat...they know the deal.

And to this day, I have yet to see anyone come to his defense...not one person.

If there was a discrepancy or someone disagreed who was there, you would have heard about it by now.

          •  oh yeah, the same ones that ran over little kids (7+ / 0-)

the same Sgt. who gave Bergdahl permission to leave the base. The platoon of fucking losers, as in lost weapons, didn't wear helmets, drank alcohol, etc. That are every day violating the non-disclosure agreements they signed.

The Army will not give much credence to what they say. There are other more reliable sources of info.

          •  Eyewitness accounts do not tell the story. (2+ / 0-)

Law enforcement investigators will tell you over and over that eyewitness accounts are NOT the best evidence. A compendium of eyewitness accounts will give you a basic understanding of what happened, but you have to pare down witness statements to common recollections if you want a modicum of truth to unfold. And even then, witnesses will likely crumble under cross examination in court because their recollections constantly become modified and shift from the moment an event occurred.

If we know that Bergdahl left his unit at least twice, we know that he came back at least once. And if he comes back once, we know that his first trip wasn't desertion. If we know that his first trip wasn't desertion, then doubt must be cast upon the notion that the second trip was desertion.

If we know that Bergdahl was tortured because he made at least two escape attempts, we know that he wasn't allied with the Taliban. We can assume that if Bergdahl was tortured after his first attempt, he would not be motivated to attempt a second escape if the odds were high that he'd be tortured again by his presumed allies, the Taliban.

Given this elementary analysis of the Bergdahl story, what is in the best interests of Chris Wallace and FNC to turn away from this simple but clear perspective and instead, fuel the latent hatred and despair of their viewers? The answer is simple as well: establish an emotional basis for alleging that Bergdahl was recovered by a misdirected and morally corrupt Obama Administration that is, by FNC's perspective, ANTI-AMERICAN.

That, IMO, is the objective. FNC must paint the black president as anti-American in order to secure their viewing base. And once again, FNC is an entertainment channel, not a news channel. They are allowed to distort the truth and lie because they do so for entertainment purposes, not as journalistic malfeasance. That they call themselves a news channel is by itself a form of entertainment.

he did not get 6 other guys killed.  I do not feel like typing out all this stuff again, but I read up on it a few days ago:

There are a lot of links you can use to persuade anyone who believes in 'innocent until proven guilty'.  The people who do not want to let facts interfere with their Faux news opinions are not likely to listen to either of us.

we have a meme developing at this website and your stepping on its fee-fees.

The meme goes nothing we know of his actions is actually true  yet except and until we get to the part where he tried to escape, and from there its still conjecture unless it fits the meme. Simple.

And anyone who knew him from people in his town to the soldiers he "served" with are liars/less intelligent/fox news watchers without independent thoughts. Because they now disagree with the meme. Could they have KNOWN this man personally, unlike the vast majority of kossaks?

Just stick with the meme, trust me.
