  •  And that "Buy American" provision in NY state (4+ / 0-)

government is there because NY is a strong union state.  Try finding that provision in any state that is run by Republicans and their "Right to Work" laws.  Those states would outsource everything they could.

    •  And all "buy American" or "buy local" (5+ / 0-)

ordinances and laws would become illegal under the TTP and the TTIP.

"Free trade" means we can't have those ordinances.

Or "dolphin-safe" tuna, because that discriminates against Mexican fishers who don't use the dolphin-safe nets.  (No, I am not making that up.)

      •  It also means that we would be required (0+ / 0-)

to outlaw consumer boycotts as well.  Yes, that means you could be dragged into a secret corporate tribunal and punished simply for posting a "don't buy from XXX" message to your Facebook page!

    •  And that is why the tolls will double on the new (0+ / 0-)

Tappan Zee Bridge -- even with no rail transit.

It is easy for me to say that is ok but I'm not one of the people who will have to use it every day.

        •  No actually it's not (0+ / 0-)

The reason NY is touting for  possible overage on TOLLS is because they decided to BUILD the bridge--desperatly needed as I have said above--with NO plan as to HOW to pay for it.

There is--as far as I know---no set price  yet for the TZ  tolls.  The tolls on ALL of the Hudson bridges are far different and in some cases make NO sense.  Til the Mid Hudson there are tolls that range from (I think I could be off a tad here)  from something over $8 for the GW on up to something like $1.50 for the Mid Hudson.  Above that bridges have no tolls.

And to drive to the Mid Hudson to "save" on tolls would cost you FAR more in time and gas than just paying the lower span toll.

One of these bridges--now owned by the State---was actually a PRIVATE bridge allegedly built by one of the Old Guard Trillionaires to get across when they didn't like the commute.

Try going over one of them BTW with only a large bill in your pocket.  What a pleasant day YOU will have remembering the toll takers expression.

There are many interests at play on the TZ project.
