    looked back.  Even as a very young person, I could see the hypocrisy.

      although I'd have to say they left me as much as I left them. The older I get, the more I strive to better my understanding, broaden my views and grow in wisdom and acceptance. All of which are things that the dogmatic SBC increasingly frowns upon. I view my faith pilgrimage much like Paul did, when he wrote that he "put away childish things" when he grew up and became a man. The SBC seems to always be doubling down on "childish things" by clinging to simplistic belief systems and regressive doctrines that are more and more out of place in a complex and diverse world.

      Actually, I've been "recovered" from the SBC for at least a couple of decades now. But I still pay attention to stories like these, as they reveal how far I've come and remind me how glad I am to have parted ways.
