. . . when Latino votes turn Texas and Florida as blue as California is now, and Congress along with it.

This upset will hasten that process.  The lesson "mainstream" GOPers will take from the upset is that they all now have to oppose immigration reform as flatly as they oppose "Obamacare."  Which they will, and that will be the end of their hopes as a national party.

Texas will NOT be blue EIGHT years from now, there's just too many old white people who vote enthusiastically, and too few latinos who do the same. I really love the brilliant minds that skimmed past North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida as states to really concentrate on turning blue.

Turn Texas Blue ain't gettin' results anytime soon.

. . . that, no matter how many of them there are, old voters have a way of dying off, so that eventually there are fewer of them.  When their ranks are not being replenished in a party that doesn't have much to say to young people of any color, that party will start losing elections in any state, soon enough.

        •  You're Forgetting About Voter Suppression... (0+ / 0-)

Why do you think right wingers are aggressively pushing voter suppression tactics (along with help from the conservative RATS on the Supreme Court in dismantling the Voting Rights Act)? Republicans KNOW that old white voters are dying off and their ranks aren't being replaced, AND Hispanic and Latino voters are increasing in numbers - thus the push to disenfranchise minorities (and young people, and women, and anyone else who might vote Democratic). Don't underestimate the right wing's ability to steal elections via voter suppression, long after white voters are a minority in this country.
