    pop science magazine that the single most common denominator among the prison population was head injury. In a nut shell, we're punishing sick people.

      We might be able to reduce both shootings and stabbings, without risking Republican victories, by fixing the public health system.

      Anyone considering a dog for personal safety should treat that decision as seriously as they would buying a gun.

      when I was a boy, my mother used to say things like, "You know, daddy hit his head when he was a boy and I think it affected him all his life." My mother seemed to know this intuitively somehow, when she tried to explain some of his erratic behavior. (Very kindly, considering what she went through with him.)

      Seems that my dad, when he was about fourteen, fell through a skylight and hit his head on a large pipe on the way down. That's one hell of a trauma. For years he carried a prominent large scar on his forehead.
