  •  He's Got a Peculiar Religious Background (15+ / 0-)

Protestant divinity degree, talks like a fundamentalist, listed as a Roman Catholic. That plus being a college professor suggests he's probably written and said a lot.

Now I think "crazy" in those areas only helps him with his base, but there may be quite a few things to find that would worry mainstream voters.

Should have enough sense to not vote for Christian Nationalist zealots. He should be drawn out to talk about that stuff. Made to own his old statements, etc.

Seniors and seniors to be should be concerned about his stance on SS and Medicare.

      ETc.

Dems should be able to tamp down enthusiasm on his side.

They should be able to pull moderates, and  esp. moderate Christians away from him.

Then we have to get out the vote. Every Dem in his district needs to show up.

Trammell needs to get his name out there quick and start communicating via social media , take control of the narrative, frame the issues, and box Brat in as fast as possible.

You can't make this stuff up.

And I mean live, in the present, not just a record of something he said or wrote years ago. The loony right knows exactly how to diffuse that sort of thing: just stand back and let us tell the truth about their extremism, and then accuse us of mudslinging and trying to scare voters. I call it "the there-you-go-again trick," and it works precisely because they really are so extreme: to low-information voters (and that's most of them), the truth about guys like Brat probably does sound like we must be exaggerating, or at least that we're just as far to the left as they are to the right anyway.

George Allen and the Macaca moment illustrate the problem all too well: folks like us had known for decades that Allen was a major league racist, but he got away with it until we actually caught it on tape.
