    Remember--most teachers are women.

    And this is a war on women in exactly the way most Republicans like to describe it--it's a war on our wallets.

    The legislature has finally proposed raises but they don't have the money in the budget to provide them.  They seek funding for these raises in part by cutting educational support for teachers--for example, drastically reducing the number of  teachers' aides.

    At one point they sought to condition the raises on having teachers "voluntarily" give up tenure. At another point they vowed to only give raises to a certain top percentage of teachers.

    Our starting teachers earn less than $35,000 per year--not enough to raise a family for sure.

    Teachers are fleeing the state by the literal thousands.  We are in the bottom five of states now in terms of teacher salary.

    Remember again--most teachers are women.

    History is a guide, not a destination.
