Even in a town with the largest employer in the state (Litton Shipbuilding) and Trent Lott as local-boy-made-good, there were no storm sewers, curb/gutters or public transportaion.  It was close to 3rd world socially and the generational effects of subservience to one's "betters" presented a disturbing stupidity mixed with the arrogance that comes with knowing one is in the majority.

Basically MS,  WV and some of the other deep south states are essentially below the level of public services one might find in poorer parts of Eastern Europe only they get a huge boost from the federal government.

They would not even have electricity or public water/sewer if us coastal liberal elitists were not sending them billions.

The fact that they get all their spending money from outside the state ends up leading to a lot of corruption in how state money is misspent. They also tax/fine/charge their poor people to death and let their rich people live almost tax free.

Don't forget us Upper Midwesterners!  Actually, the coasts look like moochers, too.  ;)  Eh, so is Iowa and WI.  So basically just don't leave out MN, the most fucked over state in the entire country.  It should be mandated we at least get 75 cents on the dollar back simply because our winters suck ass.

    •  That must have been a long, long time ago. (0+ / 0-)

I assure you that the Coast has this kind of infrastructure at the present time.
