    There's that word that GOP pols love to use ( prefaced by "not a") when describing voting blocks that aren't white and aren't male.

    But in that statement is an implicit concession -- that people who belong to these groups hold certain issues pretty dear, and overwhelmingly support these issues to the point where they may seem like a monolith.

    And that the GOP is on the wrong side of those issues.

    In essence, by saying "X are not a monolith" they are conceding that they can scrabble together, at best, a significant minority of their support.
