Seems terribly arbitrary to me. How many of these traits must be displayed before being diagnosed with a "disorder", and to what extent?
I read somewhere ( I think it was in "The Psychopath Test" by Jon Ronson) that, according to the Hare psychopath checklist, approximately 6% of the population could be diagnosed with psychopathy.
Seems to me to be much, much higher. If asked for an estimate, I would say 30%.
Another source I read (forget where) made the distinction between primary psychopathy and secondary psychopathy.
Primary psychopaths are hard-wired for psychopathy. They would grow up to be psychopaths no matter how they were raised or what formative experiences they had.
Secondary psychopaths are adapted to a harsh environment, often provided by a primary psychopath.  Think inner-city gang "soldiers", who have to adopt a callous, narcissistic attitude in order to survive.
Almost certainly, Capitol Hill and corporate boardrooms would be magnets for primary psychopaths.

I've read stats that claim 1-2% of women, and 3-4% of men, qualify as sociopaths.

I think it's 5% of each gender, and an additional 20% have a plurality of those characteristics.

I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business.
