  •  Tip for writing comments and diaries: (8+ / 0-)

If you use a text file to prepare text for Daily Kos, do NOT use Microsoft Word. MS Word puts random hidden commands in the text which interfere with the formatting of comments and diaries.

Why would you want to prepare text in a document? If you accidentally close a tab while writing a comment, you lose your work. It may be easier to look back on a web page if you are writing your text in a document.

    •  All my diaries are written in Microsoft Word (5+ / 0-)

and I've never had a problem transferring them from there to here.

    •  I prepare ALL of my DK diaries (4+ / 0-)

on MSWord and never had a problem.

May I suggest that after you write it on Word, you copy it onto MS Notepad, which will then automatically remove ALL the formatting, so you may then submit it to DK as 'pure' text.

into a Draft Diary is to SAVE YOUR DIARY every few minutes while you are writing it. I've been using this method for over a decade and have not experienced the loss of a single diary in that time.

This will prevent loss of data already entered.

It has the ADDED benefit of showing you visually if you have some sort of error in your formatting.

Saving a Draft does nothing public. No one can ever read any diary you write until you publish it UNLESS you are publishing it to a Group.

      FYI ---

After you write a diary and are ready to publish it, you are offered three choices:

Publish NOW and your diary goes to the Recent Diaries list just like every single diary which is published here, including the ones written by the Staff/Contributing Editor writers and end up on the Left Side of the Front Page.

Publish Later and you get the option to choose a date and time for the diary to go live

Publish to a Group which sends the diary to that Group's queue, where it will need to have a date/time set for it to publish.

      For GROUPS ONLY:
When a diary is IN a Group queue, only Editors and Admins can open up that Draft in the queue diary and make changes. This is a Group function, and you can decide if you want to join a Group based on how the Users who make up that Group work their queue. Some Admins/Editors maintain the right to Edit a diary submitted to their Group. ASK before joining any Group, is my advice!
