  •  Current state senator is Ellen Corbett, (10+ / 0-)

who is termed out. Candidates for her seat are a GOP "small business owner" and a misogynist Democrat.

Castro Valley seems to be tossed into every round of redistricting. We were taken out of Barbara Lee's district and put into a new one, and our state senate district has been munged with as well. Thanks to the asinine top-2 primary system, our new Congressional district went to the Dem most favored by the GOP.

    •  My district was recently re-drawn. (9+ / 0-)

Now I'm represented in Congress by Nancy Pelosi, like (most of) the rest of San Francisco. My former rep, Jackie Speier from the Peninsula, was (is) great, but I'm cool with the change in this case.

I have mixed feelings about top-two primaries....

      •  I live in a relatively blue district, so the (5+ / 0-)

top 2 fiasco results in 2 dems in the general with the election going to the one who most pleases, panders to and thinks like the GOP. This is exactly what it was intencded to do.

The propaganda was that it would result in moderate non-gridlocked politics. This relied on the myth of the silent moderate GOP majority within that party. It doesn't exist.

In heavily GOP districts, the most radically rightwing GOPer still wins. In heavily Dem districts, the biggest Conservadem wins. In split districts, all is as it was with normal primaries. All we have succeeded in doing is moving further to the right, which was the real underlying intent all along.

I don't like them. I don't think they have furthered third party candidates (which I thought was their main selling point).
