    A dedicated focus to "now" - it works both ways.

    If the past is the past and should not intrude on our experience of the current moment, so to is the future a mere figment of our imagination, and likewise should be discounted from our considerations of the current moment.

    So "the past is the past and we must focus on what to do today in Iraq" = "there is no reason to concern ourselves with imagining some future terrorist in Iraq".
