  •  We're Still Not 'Getting' Their Thrust-- (4.00)
The motive was probably purely the politics of disrupting the Democrats and gaming the election.

The reason they're so often so bold and shameless is because the side effects are typically neutral or even positive for them, typically burning the common people and their resources & institutions.

This one could be a 4 way win for them:

    • Democratic election loss
    • Increased demand in defense and security market
    • Greater acceptance of intrusive, authoritarian government
    • Tighter borders, loss of efficiency within Europe

    There are probably more.

The reason so many incidental consequences and side-effects always break the Republican way is because our sytem of government, maybe all our systems of government, are seriously ill-prepared to function in the modern world.

Nobody has ever been this good or this lucky. And they're not now.

    •  ah, but you forget the REAL reason the (4.00)
man was "outed".... remember that homeland security bumped the alert level up to high based on four year old data - right during the convention - and they got caught for doing it?  right after they were taking the political flack, the admin announced the "capture" of the pakistani.

      mission accomplished!   attention diverted!

      •  I would think a true conservative (none)
would be feeling his/her head spin on his neck about now.  First - some of them are fiscal conservatives and while the stock market thinks some of the news has been great some others think that salaries are down, prices are up and the one bubble holding the shit from completely going all over us - the housing bubble is still blowing up getting ready for the big bang.  Interest rates are still low dispite Greenspan's continual notching up the prime lending rates.
Second - a lot of folks are very nervous and look to big daddy to protect them.  Big daddy is looking very frail these days with aligators on his own tail.  And the Rove bit hasn't reassured them that Bush is just a friendly little fellow.  Instead it has become increasingly clear that Rove didn't care at all about the damage he did as long as he damaged a critic of George the tooth.  Everybody expects politics to be hard ball, but people were looking for a tad of common sense.  Not a lot, mind you, but some.
Third - the wingnuts didn't sign on for anything but nuttiness and they don't understand why Bush is in this corner Rove has created.  They had everything going for them - Prez, congress, and heck, even some judgeships even though some traitors of senators blew the lid off of the philobuster deal they had going.  Now Bush's numbers are tanking and their next door neighbors are looking at them kinda funny.  And Bush is playing games with the Supremes.
Fourth - the news media is making news of itself again.  It seems they would rather do that than really report news.  But folks are looking at Britain and thinking "that could be us!" and "What are the news media doing about that?"
And the oil on the water costs a heck of a lot more today than it did last week!
