  •  a little known film, (10+ / 0-)

directed by Elia Kazan, screenplay by Tennessee Williams, called "Baby Doll" from 1956.

Eli, like you've never seen him before.

    And, great performances all around.

He wasn't just a great character actor.  He was a great actor, and human being.

Rest however you damn-well please, Eli, you earned it.

A combination of mercurial and menacing. Couldn't take my eyes off him when I first saw that film. Played beautifully against Carol Baker's skittish sensuality.

It really is such a great movie.

I can't help but laugh at it because I can't stop myself from thinking of the "Baby Boy" parody on the Benny Hill show, which I saw in the 1970s.

But once I get past that (perhaps unfortunate) connection, I find Baby Doll to be a really amazing movie.
