  •  The average midwesterner will be dead (0+ / 0-)
the average Midwesterner could see an HHSI at the level of 95 degrees two days every year by the end of this century. By the end of next century it will be impossible to remain outdoors without a cooling system for 20 days a year.
When you want to know how well we can predict what everything is going to be doing in 100 years is to go back to 1914 and see what they were saying about us. Hmmm. If you were majorly prescient about computers, in 1999 you might've predicted what we'd be like - in 15 years. But go back 30? 50? 100 years? Forget it. CAN'T BE DONE.

Now, there actually might be “average midwesterners” 100 years from now, but they're not going to be anything like what we think of as our average midwesterners. Is there much difference we can see between 1914 and 2014? Because they're going to be AT LEAST that much different. I don't say this stuff to be hissy, I say it because this IS important - but it has to be related to TODAY, because once you go all prognosticky you lose the audience. When they hear “Social Security is going to be Broke in 40 Years! Aiee! Aiee!” they know it's bullshit. Even if you're perfectly right about “impossible to remain outdoors without a cooling system for 20 days a year” it doesn't matter. No one believes anything past about next week, really.

We have to set very concrete GOALS that relate to today, other wise this just goes in the “Flying Atomic Car” file and (quickly) out the poopchute.
