  •  Is Snapple still advertising on his show? (10+ / 0-)

If not, then they did exactly what we requested. Why still continue to punish them?

I'm a big believer  of positive reinforcement. Do what is right, and I'll support your brand (or at least, not publicly badmouth you if you sell products I don't need). Withdrawing support from Limbaugh is the right thing to do.

Otherwise, what's the point of giving in to a boycott if you're a business?

There are plenty of companies that deserve our ire. People who opted to do the right thing when asked don't.

    •  I have no idea, but the fact that he was (13+ / 0-)

one of their original national figures to promote their product was enough for me to never buy their product.

He read the ads live on air back then, no pre-recorded ads. His voice reading and ad-libbing the ads.

I hope you're boycotting Apple products then -- he was a Macintosh promoter from way back, and I believe he's featured other Apple gear as well.

      •  I'm with TexDem on this. Snapple also was very (23+ / 0-)

vocal about being anti-choice years ago, and I haven't bought from them since.

The same with Dominos Pizza - Very big anti-choicers back in the 90's. If they ever come out and say they are no longer anti-choice or now pro-choice - I'll buy from them. Many people don't forget.

Same with Chic-fil-et. Unless they come out and say they are pro-equal marriage to offset their homophobic remarks, I'm done with them and won't hesitate to tell someone why.

I understand slips or if someone within the company does something wrong - the whole company should not have to pay. But the owner/CEO should make public apologies when they do wrong. I realize 'wrong' is a matter of opinion.

So, what these current and recurring Limbaugh sponsors don't realize is there are a lot of consumers who feel the same way. They don't forget. If a company knew good and well that Limbaugh was spewing hate, racism, and they continued to advertise, I want no part of them.

Angie's List makes me cringe. After Limbaugh called Sandra Fluke a 'slut', they were one of the first 100 major sponsors to take flight. One month later they were back on the show. Boycotters begged Angie's List to leave the show, but they stayed, and sat on Limbaugh's lap everyday as he personally endorsed them as if it was a female-run company. Turns out Angie's List is not run by Angie. It's run by a male dominated extreme right-wing board of directors. The company finally pulled ads after Romney lost and they realized those who liked Limbaugh were in the minority.

They came back once this past year, and boycotters jumped on them hard. A week later, they said they made a mistake and their ads were supposed to be aired on Sean Hannity's show. Oh…okay then

I will never forget what this company did and I will tell anyone how they turned their back on women. Plus, I think they scam people into believing they're company references are bonafide and from customers, when the companies can up-rate themselves. Angie's List makes money from companies - so who is Angie's List going to pander to?

        Yelp is free -

I'd rather build up companies that treat their employs well and do good things for their communities than build up or forgive companies because they are no longer doing the wrong things.

        •  Re Yelp : (10+ / 0-)
The FTC has revealed that they have received over 2000 complaints to date about Yelp’s practices, including allegations that Yelp buries positive reviews and displays negative ones as a selling tool, forcing more businesses to pay for advertising.

Yelp is supposed to be the last bastion on the Web for honest reviews. It’s a place where consumers are allowed to honestly and thoughtfully discuss their experiences with a business, and help others find services that will actually be useful to them. The star system keeps reviews easy to read, and multiple users posting about a location seem to give the reviews some credibility.

But not all businesses are pleased with how Yelp presents their work.

Yelp has been accused of shielding defaming comments, forcing businesses into paying for control over reviews, and a host of 2,000 other complaints filed with the FTC since 2008. With problems mounting over anonymous reviews and poor business practices, it’s looking less and less like Yelp is as user friendly as they have always claimed.

          ...

Some, like 64 year old Randy Boelsems, say that the sales people will continually harass a business owner with offers to move bad reviews and buy up ad real estate for more control over a Yelp page. This pressure is very real. Business owners like Joe Hadeed in Virginia have even tried to fake reviews to raise their positivity. He tried to sue Yelp to reveal the identities of the defamers of his business, and the courts eventually ruled in his favor.

I'll check out yelp for things like a casual restaurant. But anything important ? Nope, I don't trust Yelp.

        •  And no, I don't mean to say Angie's list is ok. (4+ / 0-)

She creeps me out when I see her on TV. She charges people for a referral service that as you say, vendors also pay for.

Someone here recommended a referral site where vendors get listings they pay for and the site oversees it. The service is free to the customer. It's all straightforward.

The contractors I got (landscaping and painters were GREAT) and the follow- up by the company to make sure  I was happy was prompt and conscientious.

Angie is ripping off customers and they don't even know it.

          She creeps me out.

All that, plus the political stuff.

    •  Snapple//Boycott (0+ / 0-)

I'm pretty sure Snapple doesn't have the same ownership it did in 1992. Just like Ben and Jerry, these companies get very profitable and popular, then sell out. B&J still have good progressive inclinations and act on them. Not sure about Snapple, but I agree that if they have dropped Limbaugh they should be applauded for that, and rewarded for doing so.  I don't know anyone who listens to Rushbo any more, and to my way of thinking, that's a good thing.
