This nation has more to choose from than just a few dynastic families--the nation has had enough of the Clintons and the Bushes;  we're a nation of close to 400 million people for chrissakes!
There's a darker side to both Sanders and Warren when it comes to remaining embroiled with the Israeli albatross round our necks; a better choice would be Kucinich who is truly aware of the problems associated with this damn "special relationship" we're suppose to have with Israel and which no one has yet defined.  Even Ron Paul is more honest about the problem of our Middle East policy, AIPAC, and who wields the biggest stick in Washington.  No good will ever come of our shielding Israel from its crimes and our continued "alliance" with that rogue nation will insure that we'll never rise above the well-deserved hatred of the Arab nations and will just about guarantee that they'll do everything in their limited power to strike back at us.

Arab nations hate everybody. Our support of Israel is a blip on their consciousness. They (Saudi Arabia and Iran, at root) are currently vying for who should win in Iraq, Shia or Sunni. Not to mention Syria. Meanwhile in Pakistan and Afghanistan, Muslims who are not Arabs are slaughtering each other.

Israel is much more than its "crimes", as is the United States, which we know has a few crimes on its books. What do you really favor, the eradication of Israel? I would suggest that should Israel be eradicated by its neighbors, it would be approximately five minutes before they were back to feudin', fussin', and fightin'. But the world would be poorer for lack of Israeli creativity and enterprise.

for the general election.  Like Obama, I don't think she has any intention of governing in a progressive way.  (And imo Kucinich is the wrong messenger; I dig the other two though.)

I wouldn't mind Gore running if he can run a better campaign than he did in '00, and if he runs as a real progressive.  A lot of the stuff I've heard him say since '02 or so has seemed pretty spot-on.  But that might be because he felt he had nothing to lose, and wasn't thinking about scripting every damned thing he said.

Hillary's recent bullshit about how she couldn't reverse her stance on Iraq because she couldn't "break faith" with the troops was such bullshit.  Given comments like that and no evidence that she's abandoned DLC-type bullshit, I hope she doesn't run.  (Has she even abandoned Mark Penn?)  Sure, sure, she'd be better than virtually any Rethug, but I don't think she's our only or best shot.  I think the public tires of mealy-mouthed dissembling and corporatism.

and a few movies that were well researched like Doctor Zhivago and Reds and it can be pretty easy to actually see the next step in the process. When the point tips it happens suddenly and with very little warning, as in the Mideast recently, and in our case it will be extremely bloody. So much resentment and anger building up, so many weapons and so many mentally deranged people. We're very close.

      •  Get out of this concept of law (6+ / 0-)

it is all male-designed. Aggressive males have designed the way we live and have since way back. Men designed a money system based on greed and exploitation, isn't it obvious it was a result of testosterone!  Time for women to rule exclusively now, or at least be the advisers of what goes and what doesn't. Women have been kept out of the seats of power, deliberately so from the very beginnings. This sexism is so embedded in our culture that we don't even recognize it, neither women or men do. Now we see what happens when males rule exclusively or effectively exclusively - wars, barbarity, secrecy, collusion, disruption, danger, violence, mercilessness.  If we want a world that lifts each of us and frees us to live our time on this planet to do what our hearts desire, we need to change everything, we need to uproot everything. We can do it without chaos, we simply support those things that are right such as organic farming rather than GMO foods. What we buy is our real vote. Together, without a hullabaloo, we make the shift. I'm looking forward to the party. But it won't be done by Democrats, Republicans or any other political party. It will be done by all of us joining as one party, the human party.

          •  women (4+ / 2-)

Through  out history there have been wonderful woman rulers. In Pagan times the women had the true knowledge. How to heal.  They were in touch with the earth and all her wonderful gifts. I believe women would not allow the killing of our planet. The guns in school and open carry would not exist. Guns are for one thing. Killing. Pistols are for mostly killing other humans. It hasn't been women who have concentrated on more weapons than we will ever need or use. They're are differences between the sex's. Women are the nurturers. Men make it almost impossible for women to have any rights.  Men are a scourge on this planet. Dog fights, Cock fights. Sports. Jesus people there really are other things more important to spend your money on. Men do not care what they destroy. At least the men in charge feel that way. You don't see women doing a school or mass shooting events. You see we wouldn't play the same games as men. We are for life, and love. We have emotions you can never feel. Don't tell me I am like a man. I have had to fight to survive against men. From my job to what I am being paid men say what I earn. The system has been rigged. Hopefully women will grow a back bone and stand up to these bullies. Men really are pigs. Men don't know women at all. If you have anything to say about my life raise your hand. Then lower it and put it across your mouth.

        •  Women can be... (6+ / 0-)

... just as stupid, greedy, cowardly, cowardly and cruel as men.  They generally are.  They are just more sneaky about it.
Women control most of the wealth of the country.  They have had the vote for, lo, these many years.  They outnumber men, but vote men into office.  The country was once assured that giving women the vote would usher in a peaceful and just utopia.
Don't misunderstand me.  I like women better than men.  But that isn't saying much.

          •  I give you... (5+ / 0-)

BACHMAN & PALIN. Now how's that for a pair that could do a better job than a man?  I'm with you 100% on the ability of women to be mean, greedy malicious mongrels.... we have prime examples above.  Did I mention mentally dull as well?

Lucky for the world there are more good caring, sharing and loving women and we have several in government right now.

Spend a few minutes and check out the matriarchal hierarchy of the League of the Iroquois. Women selected the men that would represent them at council. The League of the Iroquois was a successful organization that was invited to Philadelphia at the request of Ben Franklin in order to further study their form of government.
Women do not start wars, kidnap ships on the high seas, openly lie to the electorate about WMDs, nor stake their family pride on starting and winning a war, they do pay attention to the plight of the poor, the elderly and children. Men in politics seem to brush off those issues as irrelevant.
Women can lead and lead with a different agenda than the testosterone laden or testosterone lacking men who now populate our federal legislature and do absolutely nothing for the common good.

        •  Women and Rule (7+ / 0-)

Deborah was the 4th Judge leading Israel 1107 B.C. She ruled with her feminine qualities, educating inspiring, instilling values, patiently encouraging all they had the ability to understand the law and act accordingly. She also led them in battle and slaughtered an army twice their seize and better equipped. She was the Joan of Arc in the Old testament. I never heard about her in bible school or church because men omitted her. She made them look bad because the entire army was afraid to fight, said they could not to win. Finally they said we are not going unless you go with us. She said of course I will go with you. She mapped out the strategy and called the commands on the battle field. Her general is listed in the bible for the Heroic win, she is omitted. My point we have already had a woman ruler using her feminine qualities and she proved to be superior.
I am writing a children's book about her, we have to write our own History. We have to take control.

Corazon Aquino and Benazir Bhutto.  And there's Angela Merkel in Germany.  Indira Gandhi.  Granted, Mrs. Gandhi and Mrs. Bhutto were both assassinated - India and Pakistan are still very patriarchal and paternalistic, despite India's Hindu majority (or perhaps because of it - despite its millions of goddesses along with gods, women are still very much oppressed in the Hindu religion).

If we want women to rule the nations of the world, we have to find the right ones for the job.

          •  "instilling values" is meaningless, because (0+ / 0-)

everyone has "values".  The issue is the nature of the values; the actual values.

And Marie Antoinette was the "Joan of Arc" for the corrupt and decadent wealthy class.

And Maggie Thatcher used her feminine "wiles" (guile) to show that she could be as "tough" as a man by imitating the most loathsome kind of man.

        •  Despite what the commenters below say (6+ / 0-)

I agree with you.  Goddess-worshiping partnership societies that predated Classical Greece were not only prosperous, they were advanced technologically, socially and culturally.  They were wiped out by the acquisitive, war-loving dominator societies that have ruled ever since.

In poverty-stricken third world countries, microloans are given predominantly to women because they have higher repayment rates and use the loans to establish small enterprises that provide for the entire family.

Can women be ruthlessly ambitious and callous?  Of course, they can but that's not as typical for females, if for no other reason because these traits have not traditionally been cultivated in them.

Women bring a totally different perspective to the debate than even the most woman-friendly man can do.  Women and men can be sympatico with each other but I don't think they can ever really "know" what life is like for the opposite sex.

          •  Men die younger than women because (0+ / 0-)

statistically, men are more likely to behave like macho idiots who think having a high pain threshold is something to brag about.  They ignore twinges of pain, preferring to "work through it" because that's the manly thing to do.  They don't get symptoms investigated in a timely manner, so they die of diseases that would have been manageable if they'd just taken care of themselves sooner rather than later.

I had a chat about this with my GP when my uncle died of a clot in his leg because he refused to wait in the car for a wheelchair when he was driven to the emergency room in terrible pain.  He said he wasn't a g-d baby and could certainly walk into the hospital under his own steam, slammed open the car door, and off he went, his son yelling at him to stop being an idiot and stop moving around.  Somewhere between the car and the lobby, the clot dislodged and hit his heart, and he was gone before he hit the floor.

My GP said it was typical behavior and the reason why men die younger than women.

        •  Greed has no gender. (0+ / 0-)

Our greed-based economic system is equally based upon the modern evolutionary determinants of wealth and beauty.

Evolution is entirely about choosing a mate that will ensure one's offspring the best chances of survival.  Humans are merely primates driven by the same evolutionary instincts as all living things.

Prior to society based purely upon intangible wealth (e.g., precious metals, currencies, securities, etc.), women selected men physically strong enough to bring home the mastadon, or later to toil in the fields all day.  Men chose women who could bear many children in order to increase the family labor force.

Women now seek the wealthiest men they can attract, because hunting mastadon is no longer a needed skill.  Wealthy men can thus purchase the most physically attractive women.

By purchasing the most attractive women, wealthy men unwittingly create offspring the most likely to survive and evolve in a monetary society.

Beautiful women produce beautiful offspring who, growing up in a wealthy household, obtain the best educations and social advantages, and have the greatest likelihoods of becoming wealthy themselves.  Beautiful, wealthy, successful offspring attract other beautiful, wealthy, successful offspring, etc., etc.

I.e., if men created an unsustainable economic system, they were driven by their little heads, and did so in order to bed beautiful women.  Thus, women must shoulder their share of the blame.

P.S.  A purely monetary society is likely evolutionarily unsustainable, because intangible wealth can be artificially manipulated.  Prehistoric man couldn't lie, cheat, or steal in order to better hunt mastadon; lying, cheating, stealing, and lack of social conscience  likely underlie the vast majority of modern private wealth.  Nor could prehistoric man leave his offspring a lifetime supply of mastadon; unlimited inheritance modernly produces evolutionary anomalies such as the Hilton brats, Donald Trump, and the Koch brothers.  I.e., at some point monetary-based evolution must inevitably fail.  Of course, the 1% will destroy the planet first, so that hypothesis will never be tested.

When all the political system gives you is a choice between an oppressor that pretend to support you, or an oppressor who is honest about not caring about you at all, peaceful change ceases to be an option. This site is as much a tool of the oppressors as any other site that works for electing the lessor of two evils. Sure, it allows discussions like this to occur, but just watch what will happen as we get closer to 2016. Any genuinely progressive aspirants for the Democratic nomination will be shot down with dire warnings of what will happen if the Republicans win, and a claim that the progressive has no choice, and our only hope is to hold our nose and vote for an established servant of the 1%, Hillary Clinton.

That sad part is how many people here think Hanauer was talking about the Republicans. He's talking about the fact that with our political choices meaningless, there is no path to peaceful change, only peaceful servitude.

Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your shackles. It is by the picket line and direct action that true freedom will be won, not by electing people who promise to screw us less than the other guy.

Well, it's a caricature of the truth ... You can be  narrowly focused on just the Presidential race, which does tend to pick out either a milder corporatist (Obama, Hillary) or a buck-wild one (GW Bush, Romney), etc. But even Hillary will try to raise minimum wage etc, as Obama does. And then there are the clear differences between Democrat and Republican voting patterns and picks for SCOTUS Just look at the fight over Medicaid expansion and the awful things happening in Va. over this, with even "corporatist" blue-dog Terry McAuliffe at least swinging away at Republican seekers of a tealiban ALECstan.

These things matter. Yes, both serve corporate interests to varying degrees, but around that, we get better service from Democrats. Failing to vote at all means the worse of two evils is elected, whether or not you think it is so cool to be romantically disengaged or transcendent or   doing your own thing or whatever.  live, however awful it is to slice away with a pocket knife.
