    I cut lap joints on cedar 2x4s laying flat all 4 corners then gorrilla glue with latex gloves on then one screw in each corner and pull diagonals for square. When it's not more than 3/16 off I put in another screw each corner. Then a diagonal, hinge side down before I set the thing. Gate never sags. No one does that anymore, just very old gates or sometimes I'll see it on an old barn door.

    Gorilla glue makes things stronger than all get out.
