works, too. They also approved Christian-only prayers at town council meetings this term, too!

Supreme Catholic Court of the US.

Fits right in with the overwhelming love given to the new pope Frankie with the doofus grin that most seem to find so endearing.  He might issue pretty words on paper and do a little tut-tutting, but Frankie doesn't actually DO anything to change the church to come forward to the 21st century.  The one thing I notice most starkly is that he has made no move to turn pedophile priests over to law enforcement to be tried for their crimes against children..., and he has made no move to give women any important roles within the church.  All talk, no action.

      •  NonnyO - you should be happy ... (0+ / 0-)

... Pope Francis is at least dragging the church out of the 17th Century.  As a non-theist (next step beyond atheist in my view), I'm optimistic he might even bring it into the 20th or close thereto!!  Didn't he commission a group to truly delve into the pedophile issues?  Seems to me some priests have been 'let go' - but then again, I don't get the Catholic Digest or whatever their info sheet is.  In any event, change doesn't happen overnight in 2000-year-old institutional fables.

        •  Pope Frankie says a lot of pretty words..., (0+ / 0-)

...does a bit of tut-tutting here and there..., grins like a doofus old uncle at a family reunion..., but he never actually DOES anything.  People just like him for reasons I have not been able to fathom (OTOH, I'm not a Catholic).

When/If ever Frankie turns the pedophile priests over to law enforcement for prosecutions for their crimes against children so they can spend the rest of their unnatural lives in prison, then I'll change my mind about him.  [FYI, there is NO "cure" for pedophelia, just as a psychopath is born without a conscience and there are no pills, prayers, or psychological counseling that will give them a conscience.  Dr. Robert D. Hare said in his book Without Conscience that counseling often makes psychopaths worse because they learn new ways of manipulating people.  Pedophiles can exhibit signs of being a psychopath, too.]

I have over 50 years of (mostly) historical reading (hours of insomnia nightly requires a way to keep a mind engaged; I read).  The Roman Catholic Church is the ONE organization that has caused more grief, havoc, and murder to be done in the name of religion in the last two thousand years than any single country (until the 20th century and modern wars based on lies).  Rabid misogyny can be laid at the feet of the Catholic church from the earliest times forward.  During the Dark Ages and on up through the Reformation, they mandated only priests should be taught to read and write "because illiterate people are easier to control," which meant most monarchs also went uneducated, they threatened excommunication to monarchs who didn't do as the popes dictated, including making war on other countries and pay for it, and then there were the Crusades, the Inquisition, witchcraft trials, et cetera and so forth and so on.

There's no definitive way of being brief about history that spans some 1500 years, but the Catholic church has managed to violate every commandment multiple times in that period - as have most of the other Xian "leaders."

I have a hard time reconciling their Xian "interpretation" of selected verses in the Bible that they take out of context.  I've read the Bible cover-to-cover twice, and it doesn't read anything like what either Protestant or Catholic preachers say.  Couple that with historical and archaeological info, and it leads to atheism.

Atheist only means "a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods."

          :-)
