    One is looking at the letter, and deciding to keep it as is, no changes, no ways out.

    Another is the act of crossing the room and putting it in the mail.

    And then there's going out on the platform to catch a train.

    They build on each other, like a rite of passage. Each of them is a challenge to the character; each leads to change.

    For no particular reason, this threshold comes to mind as well;

    (After the monster, the Bridge of Death!!!!)
