  •  Well, there are corporate sponsors, sure. (4+ / 0-)

The Indianapolis Symphony has corporate sponsors, too, but I'm there to listen to Emanuel Ax play Rachmaninoff.

The importance of the Pride parades in significant part is that an LGBTQ 14-year old or an LGBTQ 86-year old can watch the parade and be affirmed in themselves.  The 86-year old has known a world where such parades never existed, yet are fairly common now in many major world cities.

The 14-year old may have a more accepting road to follow as the result of public affirmation of her or his sexuality.

And all kinds of straight folks can be encouraged to be more accepting ("Watch out, you rock'n'rollers.")

That smashed glass at Stonewall in June of 1969 gave rise to those beautifully colored balloons in the photographs Eddie C brought us today.
