    The only time the shopping malls close in Canberra, where I live, is Christmas day.  (And the only time the big supermarkets close before 10:00 pm is Christmas eve.)

    However, the club I go to most often is open on Christmas day (and does a roaring trade; you have to book a table for lunch weeks in advance) but is closed on Good Friday because of its Catholic heritage.

    In fact, you might want to touch on Australian 'wide membership' clubs in one of your posts.  I don't know if they have a US equivalent, but my UK cousin and her husband found them one of the biggest single cultural differences between the countries when out here on holidays, and they were AMAZED by the facilities on offer given the trivial fees.

      it does vary. I'm going more by where I've lived which is hardly true of the country as a whole.

      That's a really good point about 'wide membership' clubs and I will add it to my workbook for future reference - thanks!
