a higher rate of teen pregnancy. His daughter is not an aberrance; she's just another stat. Given all his other misogynist votes, you have to wonder if his policies have anything to do with keeping girls and women abstinent so much as keeping girls and women barefoot and pregnant.

keeping girls and women barefoot and pregnant
Barefoot and pregnant girls and women, don't go to college, don't have "serious" jobs and might be too tired to watch and participate in the political process.

      So yea, it's that.

has given us  the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the state of FL.  AND, we have one of the highest rates of single mothers and high school non-completers..  Wonder if these things might go together.

I taught for years; high school student feel they are in complete control of themselves.  Sadly, their hormones get out of control and far too often a pregnancy results.  These are the girls that wind up in the low paying jobs (NOT ALL of them), having more children and needing help, needing day care/night care so they can work, and little support system.  Even if the school system, like the one I taught in in Texas, has a day care on campus, they still miss far too much school, and eventually most give up.  Sometimes they get help from the father, but far too often they don't.

We taught abstinence was by far the SAFEST way to keep from getting pregnant; we also had to dispel the idea that if they take a BC pill and have sex that night, they ARE NOT safe.  We also explained very carefully (and my own kids were not pleased with me a couple of times) that women can and do get pregnant while faithfully taking the BC pills, and I told them I was a prime example of that.  I was married, and would not have considered an abortion, but...it posed problems for my job and for grad school.

new slu--I mean mom, and well, these girls get to deal with a big fat social and religious stigma Forever, while recovering from having a baby (making one from scratch), and medical complications that might have occurred, and just the uncountable sleepless nights with a new baby and then toddler.

Because while parents will tell you it gets easier as the baby becomes a toddler, that is relative. The constant need for round the clock supervision is mind numbing. Add to that all the stuff mentioned above, the social isolation, the low expectations, etc., and non completion seems like a logical conclusion.

I am sure in many cases, the girl's home life is just stellar too, which helps tremendously (snark).
