  •  You're right on both counts. (6+ / 0-)

It is certainly not proven that Arafat was assassinated through Polonium poisoning, although I have looked at the reports and I find them to be compelling enough that I certainly wouldn't rule it out - and if that is actually what happened, by far the most likely source of the Po is Israel.

HRing that comment in that way is IMO cowardly and in addition counterproductive.  What we need here (and particularly in I/P) is not knee-jerk condemnation of the sort provided by drive-by HRs, but rather an actual discussion.

I'm sorry - charliehall2, harrylimelives, and RedsFanForever fail the DBAD test here for HRing and then not engaging in any substantive explanation of their HRs.  (charliehall2 is the only one who commented at all, and his comment, which reads in total "HR for Arafat comment" is hardly sufficient.)

    •  Polonium is easy to obtain elsewhere for a price.. (1+ / 0-)

Pakistan, the caucus countries that had the soviet nukes back-in-the-day even Ukraine. The amount needed can almost fit on a pinhead. Such a small amount. Who's going to miss it.

Good comment PeterHug. I appreciated the "HR drive-by" in particular.

from a number of sources.  As a practical matter, I don't think that there are any sources aside from Israel, US, Iran, Pakistan, India, Russia, the EU generally, and Japan.

Given that 210Po has a half-life of only 138 days, it must be used quickly after being obtained unless the user has a primary source to get it from.

I do not have any opinion about this, but I must say that if it were to turn out that the Po poisoning hypothesis were substantiated, there are only a few names on the list I provided above, who would be really suspected of having done that.

I understand why the HR-ers did what they did; the mere possibility of this being the case is something that would inflame opinion throughout the ME.
