    Maybe you could move there?

control we'd have more room for more immigrants...the diarist didn't really go there, do we have to be mean?

        a really absurd statement.

Heck, the the USA is 181 out of 243 countries in population density rankings

        That's hardly "over-crowded" IMHO.

my 'neighbors' mentioned 10 years ago how the neighborhood was getting much space should an individual be allotted?

        •  Count resources not just miles (0+ / 0-)

I just pointed out rational people would debate the question.  And its just part of the situation not all of it.

          The cornucopian Malthus debate rages.

Most who support the HL decision are usually going to be cornucopians.

The wiki cited by Roadbed Guy just uses square miles and what really counts, according to Malthus's essay and later thought, is resources.

1 mile of amazon rain forest with lots of water can support far more life than 1 mile in the middle of the Sahara desert.

Reading I'd suggest are 3 books:  Guns, Germs Warfare, Collapse, and Cadillac Desert.

I have this to say about immigration:  I agree with Lenny Flank's fairly recent diaries about our Inner Chimp and Chicken politics.

          •  Many of the "square miles" that you dismiss (0+ / 0-)

in the USA are indeed rich in resources - for example the vast western deserts could easily accommodate sufficient solar power facilities to completely supply the electricity requirements of the country.

By contrast, the Amazon rain forests do indeed have remarkable biodiversity if left undisturbed, but have very, very limited capacity to support economic activity that benefits a modern industrial society (which makes their demise all the more tragic .. .).
