  •  Duncan should have never been hired (17+ / 0-)

This was never a good choice on the President's part.  Education has been going in the wrong direction for almost 2 decades now.  Now there is an all out assault on public education by the right wing aided in part by folks such as Duncan.

    •  But that's no surprise. (13+ / 0-)

Obama repudiated nothing about the 8 years of horror under son of bushlips.  Instead he maintained the policies meant to solidify the hold that the oligarchs have on politics and our social life.

    •  Another thing going against the teachers (3+ / 0-)

is there has been a big PR move with $$$$ to make public school teachers look bad, blame them because taxpayers pay for their salary, of course, but they also pay for their pensions and benefits.

And there are millions more people today who either have no job or their hours have been cut to part time and they've lost their benefits, plus they never even had a chance at a pension.

      Same feelings towards public workers.

People I encounter who complain about having to pay benefits and pensions for public employees and teachers when their job doesn't offer the same, I ask them why do they want to cut down public employees and teachers instead of us getting all together and fighting to lift ourselves up.

I'm sure I worded it badly, but in other words, I've heard people say, "I'm not getting those benefits, so it's not fair that my tax dollars go to pay for them to get the benefits."

We all should be getting them. But when you close factories, move manufacturing overseas, use tax dollars for corporate welfare, then only some of us have a chance, and it's getting worse.

When a company made two billion dollars profit two years ago, and last year, their profit was only 1.5 billion, apparently that's just not enough for them, so they lay off workers or cut their hours, thus cutting their benefits.  Greedy SOBs imo.

BTW:  Those same people complaining about teachers and public employees aren't complaining in the same way about the money spent and still being spent on the MIC or SIC.
