open jeeps. At least that is what they did when the city went up in smoke after MLK was assassinated. They did bring a measure of calm to the city. Of course that was 1968. Times change.

But I wonder. My ggrandsons are African Americans. They both hate and fear the police, although they are good kids who have never been in any trouble. They are just blacks in a nation that fears and hates the color of their skin and they have been repeatedly stopped and frisked on their way home from school.

I wonder what the residents of the neighborhoods where the shootings occurred want. Do they trust the CPD? Would the presence of an outside force bring them a chance to catch their breath and enjoy a little calm? During the Democratic Convention of 1968 we welcomed the arrival of the National Guard because they stood between us and the police.

    I don't know. But I wonder.

Oh oh, I hope THAT doesn't end up in someone's sig line! :) - kos

"Repeatedly stopped and frisked on their way home from school."

The Fourth Amendment sounds like a dead letter in such a community.  Police brutality violates the Sixth.

It sounds like parts of Chicago are already under martial law, but the police are far less accountable for abusing people than the military, for whom such abuses are a ticket to Leavenworth.
