There have been shootings in Chicago as long as I've lived in Chicagoland (20+ years) just as there are shootings in every city. LA, for example, which I think is still #1 in that category.

We're hearing about it more because it's fun to embarrass Obama's "home town" and because right-wingers love to point to Chicago as the place where (until the SCOTUS decision a couple of years ago) guns were banned and shootings still happened. Because they come in from states with lax regulations, but hey, details.

I'm not saying it's not a big deal. It's a big deal! Gun violence is a huge deal!

But sadly, it's not new - it's been going on for years before the national media decided to notice - and it's not a Chicago-only phenomenon that you can stomp out by sending soldiers for a photo op. It's going to take a lot more than that.

Talking about sending in the national guard as if Chicago is some warzone is just a stunt.

I lived in Killadelphia err Philadelphia for nearly 10 years.  People were regularly getting shot and mugged, still are.  No one wants to send the national guard there.

This is just some bullshit, since the national guard will do absolutely nothing to solve the real cause of the problem.  The national guard will just cause more people to get shot and/or locked up.
