  •  Do you have any idea what the law actually says? (7+ / 0-)

The law requires that CBP hand over detained children to DHHS within 72 hours to make a determination about the best interests of the child. These laws, by the way, date from the Bush administration or earlier. DHHS and ICE can and do send many kids back. Many are released to relatives here, pending immigration court. A small number who are proven victims of abuse and neglect enter the foster care system.

The law allows children who are victims of abuse or neglect to prove their case in immigration court, and in some cases, to remain legally in the United States.  Unfortunately the kids don't necessarily get lawyers - immigration judges report kids as young as five in court without an attorney.

It's obvious he doesn't.  My working theory is that he wants to come here, stir up some shit and then go to Breitbart or RedState and whine about how intolerant or racist or whatever DKos is.  He practically states so in his profile.

lose elections. I suppose I shouldn't let entitled, ignorant pricks who have no clue what it is to be a refugee get under my skin.
