View Diary: Thanks, GOP, for getting out the Democratic vote! (142 comments)

  •  That has been true for over two decades, when the (18+ / 0-)

already registered and self-identified voters in the Republican camp outweighed the numbers in the Democratic camp.

    But THAT isn't true anymore.

Since 2012 (at least) there have been MORE registered Democratic Party voters than Republican Party voters, according to Gallup Polling. The margin? 4% more Dems and that margin has held steady for over two years now.

So THIS year, if we ONLY get the already registered voters to Vote? We CAN win the House and hold the Senate.

I believe that kos is right here, and that the GOP is doing our job for us by inciting the wrath of the very portions of the Electorate they need to beat us: Women, Latinos, Blacks.

Get ready to be very, very happy come November 5th.

    •  We do our job for us by delivering for our people (0+ / 0-)

Being reactive screechers to how fucked up the Republicans are has seriously grated on my nerves and patience, Lady.

I don't care anymore how terrible it all fucking it is, I want something, anything that really delivers to the little people as an issue. Wages, solar conversion, child care, for fuck's sake put on a fight for your people for once! That makes their lives really better!

[sigh] Get out the vote 'cause the bad guys are chasing us again. So old with that weenie life, I just hate it.

      •  You want something that delivers to the little ? (0+ / 0-)

Healthcare - DELIVERED, reducing the numbers of Uninsured by over 25% AND it WILL BE MORE once the voters in those 23 states dump their fucking moron Governors and accept the Expanded Medicaid program and it's dollars

Tax Fairness - DELIVERED they cut the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy and KEPT THEM PERMANENTLY for the lower middle class and the working poor

Equal Pay - DELIVERED the Lily Ledbetter Law requires wages of equal value for equal merit without regard to gender

Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) - DELIVERED a federal agency watchdog to help consumers fight back

Our mission is to make markets for consumer financial products and services work for Americans — whether they are applying for a mortgage, choosing among credit cards, or using any number of other consumer financial products.
Yes, I'm goddamned deliriously happy to hear another fucking idiot Republican open their yap and let more bullshit and nonsense spew out, it makes moderate Republicans want to hang their heads and it keeps them from voting.

BUT I've also spent nearly 30 years talking to prospective voters about why voting is in their best interests, and registering dozens of people just in my own personal sphere of influence over those years - on top of working with the local Democratic Party to register new voters at our County Fair and by canvassing.

If you think we're just running on a "we're not great but they're fucking crazy", then you haven't been paying attention.

        •  Weren't all those things (0+ / 0-)

in play in 2012? Didn't work then, and that was a Presidential year!

          •  Democrats cast a half million MORE votes than (0+ / 0-)

Republicans did in 2012 but because of the  Republicans holding the majority in State Legislatures in 2010 THEY got to do the majority of redistricting in 2010 ---

which means that even though Democrats cast more vote, more Republicans won US House seats in 2012.

It did work in 2012, but US politics being what it is, even winning more votes doesn't always mean you win the race.

Which is another reason why spending our GOTV activity on already registered Voters is the best strategy in this election cycle.

    •  Need district-by-district calculations on this (0+ / 0-)

I just checked FiveThirtyEight and Nate Silver doesn't seem to be doing this, at least not yet, or else it's hard to find among the weeds (World Cup odds, Le Bron news, etc.)

Very few districts are actually in play; most are locked-in by incumbency + gerrymandering + media laziness + Koch money etc.  From what I gather from the Election blogs here, we would need to win just about every one of the toss-up and lean-R ones, in addition to holding every one we already have.

So I consider a pick-up of a few seats in each House possible but by no means guaranteed, and taking back the House virtually impossible.

    •  We can't rely on the GOP. They... (0+ / 0-)

screw up everything for the average US citizen.

Besides we have to show everyone that we are to  Fun party:-D

Seems like Jaime Buetler may have some real competition.
