Vatican to support help for ‘humanitarian emergency’ of child migrants

“I wish to also call attention to the tens of thousands of children that emigrate alone, unaccompanied to escape violence and poverty,” Pope Francis said in the message, dated July 11 and read July 14 by Archbishop Christophe Pierre, papal nuncio to Mexico.

“This is the category of migrants from Central America and Mexico itself that cross the United States’ border under extreme conditions and pursuing a hope that, for the majority, will be in vain.

“Such a humanitarian emergency demands as its first measure the urgent protection and properly taking in of these children,” Pope Francis continued.

U.N. Officials Seek Refugee Label For Kids Coming Into America Alone
UNHCR officials hope to “discuss updating a 30-year-old declaration regarding the obligations nations have to aid refugees” on Thursday in Nicaragua. The Associated Press stated that “while such a resolution would lack any legal weight in the United States,” officials believe “the U.S. and Mexico should recognize that this is a refugee situation, which implies that they shouldn’t be automatically sent to their home countries but rather receive international protection.”
Joint Declaration of Bishops on child migrants
These children left their countries pushed by the misery, the violence, or the desire to be reunited with their parents or family members who have migrated and, after confronting every type of deprivation and danger, now are living a terrible humanitarian crisis. This dramatic situation affects all of us and makes us commit ourselves to “globalize solidarity,” recognizing, respecting, promoting and defending the life, dignity, and rights of every person, independent of their condition as migrants.

Holding majority sway over the highest court in the land would move to protect these refugees...  After all, their Pontiff has spoken.  If they were willing to bend the law into a pretzel to defeat contraception and abortion, surely saving the lives of innocents would spur them to action...  Or, do you suppose they're only really motivated by the "rights" of corporations and protection of the Almighty Dollar?
