  •  He's as "American" as any of us. He grew (11+ / 0-)

up in this country. He is of the cloth of this country.

Simply because his "papers" weren't perfect when he was a small child, he gets the heavy hand treatment.

Not only our immigration laws, but our entire view of "Who is American" and our entire view of immigration, refugees, and so on is just totally screwed up.

    •  Didn't grow up in the US (5+ / 0-)

But yes, his teen and adult life has been in the US. I consider his "as American" as anybody reading this post.

He came to the US when he was 12, from the Philippines. His uncle bought him a plane ticket and just took him to live with the uncle's family in Mountain View, CA.

Any group with the word "Patriot" in its name, probably isn't.

      •  From my advanced age, I see 12 yo's as (9+ / 0-)

fairly small, incapable of world travel on their own, and certainly not responsible for his situation.

I know you were just adding facts to my little rant, but it is just so insane.

The Philippines were once part of the USA (we took them at the point of a gun, after all), yet it is one of the hardest countries from which to immigrate to the USA due to our complex, interwoven, hopelessly unfathomable laws and vast delays in an underfunded agency.

I honestly hope that this case gets Obama to rethink his harsh stance toward the children arriving at our borders.  I guess he's trying to think of something ~ maybe the 2014 midterm elections ~ but he's not thinking of the welfare of those children.

The USA can handle a few refugees. It is only due to the hard and heavy hand of this administration that there is a backlog at the border.  They created this with harsh enforcement. The vast majority of children and mothers with infants, etc, have an intended destination with family or parents already within the USA.  And that's where they should be free to go. We can sort out the mess once our crazy laws are reformed, because there are decades long backlogs now.
